Got on the water around noon and caught a couple in the first hour. The weather was great, light breeze, about 62 degrees and high overcast. The water temperature was about 48 degrees. Picked up most of the fish on the east side along the houses. Landed three 18-19" rainbows and lost several others.

The game department is watching Medical Lake close this year. They ticketed 6 shore fisherman this afternoon when they caught them fishing with bait.

With the right fly, it can be much more effective than bait. Besides catching fish with fly is much funner :)

They may be reading this web site, because they sure don't seem to care all that much normally.

I believe in using bait once in a while myself. Yes, I did it once while steelhead fishing this last winter. Oh, ya, that's not Medical Lake is it. That lake is selective rules for a reason, and it just burns me when people think it does not apply to them.

I know that the Game Department is reading the web site because that is how they found out about Fishinislife's little fishing contest. I also think that many more people are reporting poachers than in past years. Each year I see more and more fly fisherman out at Medical. Word has gotten out about the quality fishery there and fly fisherman normally carry cell phones and will call in violators. Between the calls to the Medical Lake Police and the Game Department, enforcement is increasing. I just wish there was better cell phone coverage out at Amber. WDFW is however watching Amber much closer than in past years also. Things are gradually improving. Keep making the phone calls. They need our help.
