Arrived at Pine Lake promptly at 1300 hours and lines were in by 1315. The first fish hit hard on soft hackle and then another one nailed my crystal olive Carey Bugger dropper. After about 2 hours with these flies I had caught around 13 bows slowly retrieving and letting the line loose. I had about 15 “nips” at the fly and that was a little frustrating. I switched to just the olive Carey Bugger (size 10) and managed to hook and release another 12 rainbows with most in the 9-11” range. One of my fishing buddies showed up around 1600 hours and he joined in on the fun. After picking him up off the public pier he nailed about 15 bows all between 8 and 13.” My largest was about 13” and his was about 13” as well. It was mad fun on the light 5WT and little Okuma 4/5. All fish were released to live another day, like it should be out there so we can keep fishing these lakes all year round. Met some fellow anglers and enjoyed the chatting. Dropped my buddy off at 1900 hours promptly, as his mother was there to pick him up and I kept trolling only hooking into 2 more fish to end the day at 1945. My fish total was 25 and my buddy got around 15 using worms, then lures – worms really do work well out here – he even picked up a perch trolling his worm along and we found a couple bass beds). Nothing over 13” today but C&R'ing about 25 trout is real fun on light fly tackle. We’ll be back for sure!

Note to fly guys - used full sinking line down about 15-20' with a 12' leader. Then switched to intermediate sinking fly line and didn't do quite as well, and even worse with full floating fly line -- telling me that the fish have keyed in on natural food sources and are moving down within the water column.
