Took my girlfriend out for her first outing of the season...in hopes of catching a few nice rainbows for BBQing.
It turned out to be a great day.

We set up a pair of poles using #8 hooks and 1 1/2 Powerbait "nuggets."
We used 1 chartreuse nugget, and the half being a "rainbow" nugget.
We seemed to do best with a 3/4oz bullet weight and 30-32" of leader...plunking them out as far as we could get them.
Not sure why the combo worked so well, but it was practically raking them in.

We had our first fish within 2 minutes, and were bringing them in every 10-15 minutes...missed a few...but in an hour and a half she had her limit and I was getting close--so we called it a night.

The fish are coming to the surface and being very active just as the sun goes past the trees and the lake shades over. We watched a guy in a pontoon land and release 14 fish during the time we were there, doing a slow "troll" just off the bank on the far side of the lake (opposite the Road).

This is my 3rd visit to Heart Lake this month...and have caught at least a few fish every trip.
This is a great lake to take kids, as it was well stocked and plenty of fish are being pulled in.
