went out to pine again today to do some more testing on these home made spinners. It was raining, got there about 7:30. I headed out to deep water and started trolling a ford fender at 20 ft with my green/ white spinner. It's a cross between a rooster tail and a wedding ring. got about 50 feet and hooked up. with all the extra weight/ drag on the line I didn't even know I had hooked a nice 13 - 14" rainbow. brought him up to the raft and as soon as I went to grab him he shook his head and snapped my 4lb test. If you find a nice sized fish with glass beads in it's belly and a hook in its mouth... well now you know. I laughed it off and tried red and silver, caught a little 8". Trolled slow in a zig zag formation. Ran out of sunlight and left with some good knowledge about color combos and the way the lures acted. I'm on the hunt for those browns...

Nice report Gian. The browns can be caught using full sink fly line and using leech patterns in size 6 white, black, or olive, with white working very well. Troll the shelfs and drop offs and weed lines early in the morning (5-7am) and again late at night (8-11pm)...these are when they feed. Otherwise hope for a rogue holdover bow...sounds like you definately hooked one! Good work!
