report = Wow. That is all that I can say about this absolutely marvelous day
of fishing at my favorite brook and brown trout lake. As most of you have
seen, I have left many reports over the summer about this lake and having
great success and this last Saturday in September was no exception. As we
arrived at the lake we were privileged enough to see a bald eagle feeding on
the lake. He swooped down from his perch on a tall pine and scooped up a
nice trout and flew away to his landing to enjoy his catch. We headed out
onto the water in our usual rental row boat with the bowed oars. As we
shuffled along in the water I immediately felt a bite. It was a great fighter
and he measured an impressive 14 inches. Wonderful for this lake. The scenery
around Jump-Off has not changed at all since I was here last. The kids in
the house across from the resort were still fishing for miniature perch and
sunfish and the man who lives in the blue cabin at the end of the lake was
still out on his dock as usual fishing with power bait. We had minimal success that day but it
will leave a lasting impression as one of the best and most beautiful days
of fishing I have ever experienced. I hope the lake stays this way for
generations to come.
