It was my first successful day for muskies alone - and I paid the price! I managed to get this 37" ugly, skinny musky in the net. I had another musky around 40" all the way to the boat and here is where the "first time fishing alone" lesson was learned. If you never landed your own musky before - take notes. First, wait until the fish is actually a little tired. Second, when you bend over to grab that high speed, heavy musky net - make sure you don't leave any slack in the line - not even for a second. Obviously that's what I did. He took that split second, one head shake and spit my Ducktails Weed Warrior Tandem Willow spinner and spit it out like he was never hooked. He then swam slowly - so I could watch him for a long time to realize how stupid I was - under the boat and back to the deep. Anyway, good day of fishing. Had one other fish follow to the boat.

Always remember to safely CPR - Catch, Photo, Release!

How'd you get the picture if you were alone? Congrats on both fish.

Would you feel better if I told you that I practiced with my shiny new cradle on a 48-incher, with predictable results?

That seems to be the way things work. Sounds like a great day anyway. Didn't I see your picture on the cover of the latest Fishing and Hunting News.

Ouch - Don, you lost a 48" learning to use a cradle? I don't feel so bad now - thanks for sharing that with me! Yes Red, I was on the lower corner of the latest cover. It was nice that the NW TIGER PAC could get some more publicity. Rosann - I use a tripod to take the picture. It is a bit tricky especially when the boat traffic is bad with all the waves. Oh yah, then to hit the timer, grab the fish and pose before the shot goes off - and not fall into the water with the fish. Mark Wells gave me the idea and he has no problems - of course, his boat is twice the size of mine!
