My son and I arrived at Offut Lake around 05:26 am to begin dock fishing and then we would rent a boat when the rental place opened up. Well, we started to dock fish at 05:45 am and by 06:20 am I caught a small - 9 in trout. No one else had caught anything before we got there. I just got lucky, I guess. But, wouldn't you know it, my luck ran out AFTER I caught the trout and my son put it on the metal stringer. The stringer and fish were placed in the water attached to the dock, which was the usual drill after we caught a fish. Then something happened, I still don't believe it, at 06:40 am my son noticed a very hard tug on the stringer and then a whole bunch of bubbles came to the surface of the water. He said he did not see the fish on the stringer anymore. So, he pulled up the stringer from out of the water and the trout was GONE!!!
My mouth dropped, both my son and I had a bewildered look on our faces. Then, some other dock fisherman said the OTTER GOT it!! Yes folks, the Otter got it!!!. Had my son and I known about this OTTER, we would not have put that trout on the stringer and in the water next to the dock to feed it. Lesson learned to all anglers. There is an OTTER at Offut lake and it will take your fish from your stringer, that's for sure. As for the lake fishing, it was ok, could have been better. Though weather did not corporate at all. Trolling was a pain because of the wind, rain (torrential at times) and choppy waters.
That's about it.
