First week of August 2008 at beautiful Curlew lake the fishing (and catching) has returned with abundance. Several years ago I thought this lake was on the way down due to what was referred to as very poor management and misdirection - Well that apparently was then not now - starting out at 5:30 a.m (lake is like a mirror and very beautiful) and using a hand tied flies in black and olive (wooley bugger), candy cane and a gray ghost my wife and I fishing in a range of 2 - 4 colors were successful in connecting over the next 5 days with several 2 - 3 lb trout and one 4 lb 2oz - any under 12" (which were many) were kept alive in the net and released to grow bigger. The weather was perfect all day with a few exceptions and those being a few late mornings with a bit of a breeze. We really enjoyed the company and friendship found on and off the lake and our hosts at Black Beach, Sharon and Al were very accommodating and helpful. - loved our stay there. Al will 'smoke' your catch for small fee and they are delicious. Water was dark and cloudy (as usual) with the northside of the state park a lot better as water south of the park had a great deal of 'crud' in the water and would cling to the line and take away fishing time to remove it.

We visited one other resort but found the people there more interested in what I had 'in my wallet' ($$$) and not to forthcoming with helpful fishing tips.....oh well, we went back to fishing with tried and true trolling methods and had great luck with catches of some very nice rainbows. Oh and yes did see several 'big muskies but left them alone - rather catch trout and will leave the muskies to those who like to catch monsters.

Next year I am sure it will be even better - sooooo - tight lines to all -

Great report, an amazing lake too. I was out here 2 months ago,big muskies,big trout and even big bass. I need to get back here ASAP.
