9/15/2008 5:45:00 AMWe have been picking them up on chartreuse for most of the summer. I only use Kalins 2" grubs. They have by far the best tail action on the market. They were hitting mostly white in the spring. And depending on water clarity you may have to use motor oil or black with either blue or red fleck? It really boils down to knowing the lakes you are fishing and understanding how, why, and when crappie feed. I have been catching crappie since I was 14 years old. And I am 40 now. But I also fish every weekend, so that helps! LOL! Good luck out there. I think it's Roosevelt for walleye this weekend. Take care.

9/15/2008 5:48:00 AMOh yeah... The depth... Still about 12'-18ft. Crappie love structure! And Newman does not have much. So you need to find the mounds and drop offs on the lake. A good depth finder/ fish finder is a must! When the weather cools off it;s back to the shallows. They will feed heavily before it gets too cold.

9/15/2008 9:02:00 PMI find the contrast between what works for you and what works for us interesting. I tried to find some chartreuse curly tail grubs but didn't find any at Sportsman's Whse and wasn't really interested in traveling around much to find them elsewhere. No matter, red/white and black/chartreuse tubes worked well for us. :-) My brother and I took a copy of the picture you posted with us when we went mid-August trying to find your "spot" and ended up finding a couple of our own. I'm pretty sure I know where you were at, and we picked some up there too, but had better luck at the south end of the lake and that's where I pulled up my largest crappie to date.

9/15/2008 9:35:00 PMHewesfisher- My wife and I had a good chuckle when we read your comment. I feel a fisherman's success doesn't always hinge on whether or not your using the right color but how it's being presented. I concentrate more on structure and water temp than color. I find that chartreuse works just as well in clear as it does in stained or even muddy water. Oh btw.... I very rarely take my pictures from the spot of the catch.

9/16/2008 7:33:00 PMtcma03hog - Yeah we were sure that was the case on the "location photo", no matter it gave me an excuse to drag my brother out in the rain and we still had a great time. I agree with presentation being key although color does sometimes come into play. Can't tell you how many times we've started out with different colors only to have one outfish the other and then change to both the same and still have the same results. Some days it's just nice to be on the water whether or not I'm catching fish! Good luck at Roosevelt!
