Well got to change things up this Last week from Fishing Chelan to Fishing Rufus...Started off low in the lake trolling my style Wooley Bugger with an action disc to boat our first 10 bows with 1 that we kept right at 5lbs the first 2 hrs..

The fish were on the bite so I thought I would run between Pump 3 and 4 to a spot that I know holds some of those toads that Rufus is known for..We were throwing black Jigs and spoons to the shore to produce 11 more fish but nothing over that 5lb. mark .. released all of these..

Motored up lake to just below the first set of Pens where we were throwing Jigs and Spoons..caught a few this way but not what I had expected, so I decided to change things up and pull my old Faithful Wooley bugger fly along the pens and Wham we hooked up on one of the largest Triploids that I have seen in quite sometime..Fought the fish for 15 min. or so and and the fish made a long freightline run and broke us off..I know this fish was well over 20lbs.

So we ended the day at 3:00 pm with the total catch and release at 41 trout..Great day in my book compared to what we have been reading...I can say Rufus is Back...

Hey chelan, It does sound like the fishing at RW is picking up. Thanks for the report. Did you happen to get the water temp?

Thanks chelanlaketrout for the report. Water temps on the rise. Things are looking up, and will have to get up there for more fodder for the smoker.
Stay safe.

Hi Joe, what pound test do you use when you troll the woolly buggers? How deep do you troll the flies?

I use P-Line 8lb. test and I troll the top of the water column..2 to 5 ft deep depending on the speed that I am trolling..

Hey Joe,
Thanks for the report. Nothing is more fun than catching those beautiful fish. RW is truly a special place. Hope to see you soon out there. BTW, I was fishing in Key west this past weekend and caught my first Tarpon! I was really lucky. The fish was a big one - 120lbs. That fish is truly one of the strongest fish I ever battled. The first run the fish leaped 3 times and then gunned it for a boat anchored 100 yards away. Pretty amazing strength!!! I see why you love the tropics as well!! It was also nice not to have to wear 5 layers of clothing while fishing! See you soon!
