As with yesterday, black #12 Ice Cream Cones under an indicator did the trick. Caught and released twelve fish -- most of them around the 5:00 hour -- by varying my hand retrieve, sometimes in quick 3" strips, sometimes longer, both in duration and length. I even let the wind and the waves make a belly in my line and move the fly that way. Still another method was to simply let it be, well, still. A good day.

It's been fishing very well lately. I was there May 10th also, fishing from 2:30 - 5:15. Got 16 total to net with another half dozen or so lost. Initially they wanted a small black/silver pattern, but when that shut down I remembered your previous report about a snow cone (ice cream cone). This pattern got me my last 6-7 fish. Mostly small fish today but got a few in the 16-18" range and lost some other sizeable fish. Were you in the green pontoon boat or the john boat?

how deep were you fishing it (what weight was the fly)

flyfishinkid: I was fishing the fly about eight feet deep in 10 feet (or so -- my best guess) of water. I know my boat was in 14 feet, but my guess is that the fish were holding in the ten foot range.

raffensg64: Glad you were able to use the pattern. Man, it was deadly. I have a light blue drift boat, and yesterday I anchored on the eastern shore, just north of those little bouys in the water. There's a recently downed tree in the water there... The fish aren't huge, but they're willing to play. I might go back tomorrow.

I was there tonight and was darn-near blown off the lake. I knew it wasn't the smartest thing to do, but it's just been fishing so well. I caught three and hooked one more in an hour, but I didn't put in until seven o'clock -- I just had to check it out!
