Went out for shakedown cruise after tuning up my motor on Lake Samish. Once I knew the Suzuki DFT 70 was running smooth I decided to try my luck despite a pretty stiff wind. Water temp was 58-60 degrees. Fished for about 90 minutes drifting in a shallow bay using spinnerbait & medium depth crawdad crank. Only one hit which resulted in feisty 2.8 lb male smallmouth. This is my 1st smallie in Samish & since I get skunked about 60% of the time on this lake I was pleased. I hope the smallmouth here don't totally displace the largemouth as they did in Lake Whatcom.

Note about boat launching, The broked concrete ramp has not been repaired and launching & loading here continues to be a bit difficult as the there is about 1' drop on the Rt side. When there is a cross wind (pretty common) it is often easier to launch & load in the gravel rather than using the concrete launch. If you are worried about your boat bottom getting a few scratches you might want to avoid this one!

That launch should be in the guiness book of world records for ugliest concrete work . Went out there today and caught are 10 kokes. Took a bit to figure this lake out. Those little buggers wanted it fast and close to the surface. Dodgers and those new plastic bladed wedding rings to shoepeg little krill scent was the ticket "TODAY" . Whats the deal with all those chubs. We were catching them at all depths while trolling . They look like a bottom feeder. Definetly no wall hanger kokes today but it was fun . Never understood why people anchor and fish directly in front of a boat launch making launching and retrieving that much more fun. Almost got a rod tip in the face by some dude on the beach setting the hook on a "CHUB' while launching. Didn't know setting the hook on a garbage fish was more important than my eye since you were pretty much sitting in the middle of the launch ramp. FUNNY STUFF.
