Launched from Wenberg around 4:30 or so. It was around 85 out, so of course there were more sport boaters than I could count. Kind of expected that. At least some skinny old grey beard in a bikini bent over in front of my buddy on the dock and gave him some seasoned viewing lol.

First thing, we head just north from the park to the cove and we fished the point. I got one good hit on the 4th cast, and missed him. I figured that was the beginning of great evening. Unfortunatelly I was wrong. We shot across and up north to the shallow bed areas. The problem is that we only had a few hours to fish, so we just cast and ran to a lot of spots.

My friend did manage to catch a nice 2.5 lb smallie. He caught it in the funniest way. He had grown impatient with the senko I had him using, so he rooted through my tackle box and found a piece (yes, just a piece) of a plastic crawdad. It was just enough that it had the pinchers still attached. Not being an expert caster, he launched the handicapped crawdad over the corner of this dock, and immediately snagged. I jetted us over with the trolling motor and found that he had wrapped around a nail head sticking out. Once he got the line off the nail head, he said, "damn, I'm stuck under the dock too". But as he pulled the rod tight, I could tell it wasnt a snag fish. Being as close to the dock as we were, it only took him a couple of turns on the reel and the smally was in the boat. Strange catch.

After that, we managed to catch some dinks, ranging from my whopper 4" (about the same size as the senko it ate!) to about 3/4 pounds.

Beautiful day, but I really need to take some time off work and get out before the boaters!
