I went to Fish Lake this morning for the first time in 2 months. The last 2 times there this yeat the fishing was average to good. Today.......It was great!

Got on the water about 6:15am. The water was a warm 72ª at the surface and about 63ª at 20'.
It was beginning to rain lightly as well.

I began using a stayner ducktail and sinking line. I was marking pockets of fish sitting arourd 15' as I began working my way to the SW corner deep water. On the way over I caught 3 nice Brookies in the 12" range. As I approached the middle of the West half of the lake I hooked into what I originally thought was a snag. I was thinking how the hell could I snag in 40' of water.....thats when the snag took off on a run!! After a 20 min fight I landed a 27" Tiger Trout. This fish was probably in the 5 to 6 lb range. Once I released him (he strongly swam away) I tied on a new Stayner and casted and was letting it sink when I hooked another lunker Tiger. This time it was "only" 23"! This one didn't fight as much. Oh did mention that it had begun to rain pretty hard!!

After releasing the second big Tiger I notised that I had moved to within a few yards of the West shore. I casted near the weeds and began to move out a little when I hooked into another fish......this time it was a Pumkin Seed about 1 1/2 times the size of my Stayner. As I pulled him in to release a sizable Tiger Trout was in hot pursuit. These guys were being pretty aggressive this morning.

After sitting out the brunt of the storm I began working my way back to the launch.....I was pretty wet and the wind was picking up. I only landed 2 more fish (smallish brookies), but the 2 lunkers made this day rate a 5.

No.....I used to carry a camera until I was trying to photograph a fish with one hand and hold the fish/net with the other and dropped my camera in Williams lake.

I tie a "Blond Stayner Ducktail" with a yellow/green chenille and rib it with silver oval tinsel. The tail and beard are hot orange hackle fibers and over wing is natural duck flank. I also weight the hook. I usually tie Stayners in sizes 10, 8 and 6 on 2X long streamer hooks. I was using an 8 when I caught the large Tigers.

Fish Lake has a Public Fishing Dock as well as plenty of accessible bank to fish on along the East side of the lake. Last year the State record Tiger Trout was caught off the East bank.
