Fished for couple hours in the afternoon, when I left it was still biting. They were biting one after another, had a blast the whole time I was there. Caught in excess of 100 perch, more small pertch this time though. Fishing right in front of the boat launch.

Nice haul! I tried taking my boys out there a couple times last year. We watched other people catch fish, but didn't have any luck ourselves either time. You have any tips for me without giving up your secrets?

There are no secrets involved. I use 4lb line for perch with small ice fishing poles, an ultra sensitive tip to see when the fish bite, and fish about 2'-8' off the bottom (this is the most important) and jerk the jig up every now and then. When the fish are biting, they will almost take whatever you give them, tipped with some maggots of course.

OK...So this is probably going to sound pretty dumb...but are you taking time to fillet all of those little perch? Is that the best way to prepare them? I live right by silver so I'm thinking about getting out there real soon but haven't cooked perch much. Any tips would be great! Nice catch by the way.

The perch get scaled and gutted, then dip it in flour and fry it in a pan on medium till its cooked the way you like it. Only down side is you have to clean them as you eat, but they are delicious.

100 Sorry but you can't eat that many before they turn bad in the freezer.

I fished Silver lake many times last year. Learned from a couple of regulars that when the maggots aren't working - perch eyeballs are the next best thing! In you bring a paperclip - you can pop those suckers out 1-2-3. My kid got pretty grossed out by it (as if handling maggots was any better!) Anyway - when they aren't biting maggots...Eyeballs seem to work! Plus they are much cheaper then maggots. The key is catching those first few so you can harvest the eyeballs. I would imagine these would work ice fishing up at eloika as well!
