Having fished Sprague the day prior and only getting 1 small rainbow in 5 hours of fishing, I had to try it again. Winds from the NE at 10-15 MPH, bright and sunny, water temp 42. Same results, only 1 small rainbow, except this time I only stayed 3 hours. I threw all of my usual Spring patterns...blood worms, other chironomids in various sizes and colors, skip nymphs, hares ears, buggers, PTs and leeches. I fished under an indicator with floating line and stripped the nymphs on a type III sink. The only pattern that worked for me was a size 10 BH brown mini leech, stripped on the sink line, which accounted for both fish. Not a single take on chironomids patterns, most likely due to the total absence of hatches. I talked to several other fishermen, all of whom agreed it was very slow. Oh well, it can only get better from here!
