A better day than last Saturday (got skunked). Tried trolling (buggers tipped with nightcrawlers and spoons behind flashers) and bottom fishing (marshmallow/worm) with no luck.

My buddy and I were finally able to scratch out 3 rainbows (biggest was 3.5 lbs) using slip bobbers with "trout worms" (we used to call them red worms when I was a kid) hugging the bottom (11 feet) about 75 yards in front of the Four Seasons Resort dock. When I cleaned the fish, they were full of snails. Tight lines.

Excuse my taste ignorance, but a fellow angler told me fish that feed significantly on snails do not taste good; Should it not matter because these fish are initially planted? They're planted, right?

Haven't eaten any of the Spring fish, but caught a bunch last Fall that were plenty tasty. I would imagine that because they are feeding on the snails right now, their flesh will taste differently than when they start to actively feed on the fly hatches. It wouldn't surprise me if they taste "muddy" right now. I'm going to save the Spring fish for the smoker. Yes, they are planted, but they could be from last year's plant. I was told, now that they're actively feeding, they should grow about 2" per month.

I've caught plenty of 19-25 inchers this year with snails in them and they taste great when I smokem, had many compliments. May need better brine or smoking process. Just about all trout that big should be smoked or baked never fried.

The ones we caught out of Sprague this spring did taste a bit muddy so we have been smoking them lately.
