Went up to lake Cavanaugh to fish for the Kokanee which I've been seeing in recent trips. I've been up there and fishing for rainbows, and in the past wasn't really set for Kokes, but today I was set up correctly.
Arrived about 10:00 am , cloudy skies, no rain, mild chop, no other boats in site. FYI, the public launch is free. Exercised my 2 rod endorsement stamp... used two downriggers. First rod had a chrome dodger with a new inline spoon that I had picked up at Fred Meyer. The blade was gold, and it had two dark flies on the end. This was the more effective of the rigs. The other rod was using a Sepps dodger size 4/0 green colored, with various things in tow. on this one caught fish using the Silver Horde Mini hootchies in Pink, Green, and blue colors. I also used on of the Spinners which Toni made for the spinner swap. Caught a rainbow on that one quickly.
The only thing that didn't seem to bring fish was a Lurh Jensen "Kokanee Troll" pop gear string.
Over a 4 hour period I boated about a dozen fish. Culled the smaller ones until I had 5 Kokes at 12" a piece. The smaller released ones were about 9". Also released 3 skinny looking rainbows which were 9". I fished from the boat launch end of the lake, going down to the island at far end, as per RSEAS blog report on Cavanaugh. The majority of the kokes seem to be in the middle of the lake. All fish were caught at 16-18' on DR in about 50-60' of water.
Can't wait to hook these things up in the kitchen.

Thanks for the mention and nice catch! Kokanee are excellent, both at the end of your line and on the dinner plate. Check out my new Blog post, another culinary adventure!
