Caught a nice small mouth bass at South end of Padden right before Friday Creek. Casted about 5 feet from shore in about 5 feet of water.

Didn't even know they had smallies in Padden!
The trout plants they put in there for the opener are big compared to the dinks we get around my area (Fed Way).
Used to love flyfishing that lake in the early 1990s while going to school up there (woo, gettin' old).
There's a nice mayfly hatch about this time of year in the same area you mention in the early afternoons (or used to be). Used to fish a dry fly tan compara dun size 14-16.
And in the summer right around dark, there's a HUGE yellow mayfly hatch (forget the name, think it was a Hexagenia genus) that comes off the water. Some fish absolutely SMASH the surface at night for those things LOL.

Enough bug talk, nice fish...

Ah that would explain the smallie.
I was thinking Friday creek may have been that semi-marshy entry 'creek' into Padden on the south (I think SW) end by golf course.

Whoops, you are right. It was actually Samish Lake right near Friday Creek. Sorry for the confusion!
