Everything finally fell into line and i was able to get over and fish rufus for a few days. we fished both saturday and sunday, from about 0600 til noon or so with the temp getting pretty close to triple digits by afternoon.. the water temp stayed a constant 59* and both days were carbon copies fish-wise. things started out pretty slow. the first hour or so we we had 3-4 hits and got a few to the boat that were dinks (under 2lbs) and were released. a bit later we boated a nice fish that was deep hooked and was 3lbs 3oz., that went into the live well. it was starting to get pretty hot so we put the top up and tied off to the pen anchoring line and still fished while we had breakfast in the shade. my buddy bubba caught a keeper at 4lbs 13oz on a small black jig while munching on a sandwich. we then continued to troll and drift trying flies and spinners near the pen. i hooked into one i'm sure would have been my all time best, but all i could judge by was seeing him roll about 75' out and the way he fought. he broke off before he got to the boat.ehhh. we did end up taking our limit both days, with the biggest fish at 5lbs2oz and 4lbs13oz. it was an excellent trip and we saw lots of wildlife in and near the water. i gave it a '4' for the overall experience, not necesarily because of the fish we caught.

I was lookin forward to your Rufus Woods report and I wasn’t disappointed. It’s always great to hear about folks that have the Rufus Woods fishery figured out. Did you stay at the state park? Thanks for the report and photos.

hey Big D. no we were staying at the TRAIL WEST MOTEL in grand coulee (i'm an AC kinda guy). it's an ok place, but i like the CENTER LODGE MOTEL better, and it's a short run to the pens from that end. anyways, fishing was a bit slow but still productive. i usually fish near the lower set of pens. the middle ones i leave to the bank fisherman, and the upper pens i visit once in a while. there's a nice stretch of river above the upper pens where we can usually pull out some native fish. they're smaller as a rule, but fun to catch. i haven't fished the bottom end near chief jo in quite a while.

Good to hear you made it over dave g. There are probably better places to fish in the state, but Rufus keeps ya coming back for more. Nice fish and great report. Thanks Man

HIYA LEWIS...yep, RW is my favorite fishing spot in the state. love the river and and surrouding area. i may start splitting my extended trips between RW and Roosevelt. got a small taste of it monday before we came home this time and i want more, lol. as long as you're on the water, you can't go wrong.
