Report::

Well I wish my first report of 2005 was good news for everyone but, Well
lets say we accomplished 3 things! First being we Did get out of Momma's
hair for the Day, 2nd being we also managed to not fall through the
Ice,(came close tho) and 3rd we successfully Defeated the element's of
nature by not freezing to death or getting soaked. Now all those 3 things in
themselves makes it a Successful fishing trip to many folks in my circles
anyway., But the truth of the matter is I was a man on a mission to Bravely
go were few fisherman have gone before! The dreaded 1 mile hike from the hwy
17 bridge that crosses the Lind Coulee waste way parking spot in farmer johns
field, to the secret hole known to the old timers of the Columbia Basin as
Horseshoe bend!(for reals) its a hike not for the weak and in experienced
fisherman, But it posed just the challenge this fatboy was looking for !
"THE Glory HOLE" I spotted this place years ago and never ventured back to
it with fishing gear until t!
his day, So armed with my trusty Shamano and eagle claw combo and a sack of
Venison jerky and a diet Pepsi along with my creel loaded with every trout
bait known to man, including the standard lil bottles of Pautzke's red eggs
and mikes cheese eggs and every color of powerbait in our little hardware
store at home or at Mardon my favorite little place to hear the latest from
the Big guns! and finally I had a box of crawlers that Momma swore she was
gonna throw out in the snow if I didn't get them out of her fridge! now that
was all it took so well me my eggs my power bait and now my worms were doing
what I setout to do GET FISH, so about 20 minutes into my hike along this
cow trail besides the running water of the upper Lind Coulee, at last I
spotted what I thought was heaven right here on earth, the infamous
Horseshoe curb its detectible by a little trolley box that's on a cable that
crosses the coulee then when you see the swirling water and its ice
free, well
it takes your breath away! Anyway I tied a small single egg eagle claw
hook on, and before you know it my Balls o fire red eggs were a drifting
through "THE HOLE" well after about an hour as fate would have it on this
day, the only thing biting was the frost biting my nose and I ventured out
of there empty handed. But when I returned to my old Pickup truck, there was
farmer john, whom I know now! We went to school together way back in the
day, anyway he asked me about the fishin and asked why I parked there! sorta
Dumbfounded I asked well how else was I gonna get to Horseshoe bend? He
laughed and said follow me. so I did and low and behold there not 100 yards
from were I parked was a feel free to hunt sign and a New Road that lead
right to it. He exclaimed I made this road years ago to make it easier for
everyone. Well Now feeling really stupid that I risked life and limb to
reach the Glory Hole I remarked. Thanks for tellin me john. And as we
laughed it off we Realize that's its not always the Catching Fish that's
exciting it's the Chase and the enjoyment it Brings that's what's important!
lets all have fun and Enjoy what we have while we still can. For Washington
Lakes.com this is Fatboy Rog catcha next time and good luck
