8/9/2010 8:45:00 PMHey kevinb i lived in arizona and we would use a waterdog as bait (live) you can use live bait down there so if you have a lure like a lizard that might work. But what ur using is workiong for ya so thats all that matters.Just an fyi for ya.

What do you mean by "Poached"? There is no size limit nor quantity limit on pike in Idaho as far as I know. Did you just see the carcasses of a couple of filleted pike? I to have had some pretty good days at Killarney this year. Spinnerbaits always seem to be the best producer there. Ay weedline with 5 to 10 feet of water has done the trick for me."Happy Fishing"

8/10/2010 9:56:00 PMThese 3 fish had several large/long cuts running down the body but not filleted. The meat was all there,just deep cuts into the organs.

8/11/2010 9:24:00 AMKevinb, I am not surprised. The pike have a bad rep, some deserved, some not. The state is determined in the past that the Cutthroat are being destroyed due to the pike, so trout guy hate them. Some bass guys are convinced that the pike eat their bass, which of course they do to some extent. I am not so sure that anyone should do what they did, but again, I am not surprised. PS, I love to fish for the pike myself, so I take a "balanced" approach to the issue.

and leave it on the launch. I've encounter similar type incidents on the westside with tigers. It seems to be getting better but just a few years ago,it was happening on an all to regular basis.
I'll be back out here (Panhandle) in the fall.Hopefully I can hook up with something a little bigger.

I just checked back to this post to see your reply to my question about poaching. Now I see what you mean. I have been fishing at Killarney and all the other chain lakes for the past 20 years and I have never seen anything like what you described. It's a shame that someone would think the slashing the guts of a few pike would do anything to the population in those lakes. It seems to me that there is a lot of anamosity between fishermen who target their favorite species. I LOVE fishing for pike. In fact I just got home from Killarney where I fished for about 6 hours and released 5 pike and a bunch of crappies, but that doesn't mean I would kill a bass I caught or a trout, just because I choose not to taarget them when I go fishing. When you come back in the fall you might want to try one of the other chain lakes. Killarney typically yeilds pike up to about 8 or 9 pounds. There a re a few of the larger fish there but you would have a better chance at a larger fish if you were at say, Swan Lake or Thompson. Happy Fishing
