Well heres the Newman Report from the Mountain Muskies Tournament. I couldnt be more proud of my daughter with her 46"x20 Tiger her first big fish and her first tournament. She and her partner Mark took 2nd place over all and she ended up takeing the big fish for the tournament over Herb by one inch, Herb caught a 45x"x19.5. My wife Melodie actually caught a 26"x10 Tiger and a 26" Pike yes thats right a Pike, all i keep hearing is that there are no Pike in Newman, well I beg to differ, we have a picture to prove otherwise. I myself after catching Tigers for the last month didn't even get a bite. I guess it was one of the best days I've had even though I didnt catch a fish. Good luck fishing everyone. Thanks Mountain Muskies Chapter 60 for a great 1st tournament on Newman.

Fantastic tournament for our first! I like Craig couldn't have been happier. We both have been catching a lot of fish, but couldn't buy a bite yesterday. Thanks to everyone that participated. Hope to see you all on the water sometime soon.

It truly breaks my heart to see another pike caught in Newman Lake. NOT! I actually find it rather refreshing to hear that there are a couple of pike in Newman. I believe the numbers are extremely small and they are there because someone released them in there, but the thought of pike multiplying in Newman makes me all tingley. I just hope a male and a female find each others company enjoyable. Congats to the local club. Sounds like the tournament was a success and it's good to see a 46"er in there. How many total Muskies were caught during the tournament and how many baots were entered? Happy Fishing

I think the total was 5: 28", 30", 37.5", 45", and the 46". There were 12 boats that entered the tournament. I went out today to pick up the loaner boat. Figured I would wet the lines for a while to get some redemption..... No luck today either. Spent the better part of 3 1/2 hours on the water today. I did however have one solid strike, and a follow to the boat. Better than yesterday!

That is the 2nd pike that I have seen in the reports for Newman lake. Lets see what happens in the next few years with their population. :D

Kellen if you fish docks and above the weed beds on Newman you will eventually hit a fish. Try using spinnerbaits, spinners, husky jerks, bucktails. Try and use baits that arent super big 6-7" max. We have meetings the 4th Tuesday of every month at the roundtable pizza on francis at 6:30 you can get info and talk directly with other muskie fisherman and women. The next meeting is the 24th.

Like Craig said, fish those spots and eventually you will get some fish. They can be frustrating at times. Craig and I have been hitting them very well for the past month, and this weekend we couldn't buy a hit..... Be patient, and if you see a fish follow, or think you might have seen one.... Do the figure 8 at the end of your retrieve. The purpose of the figure 8 is to keep the fish's interest. The change in direction will increase the chance of a hookup. Don't let your lure stop in the figure 8. Our meetings will get you in contact with some great k knowledgeable people that can hook you up and increase your odds a bit..... Good fishing!

I would just like to say that knowing what i know now everyone needs to kill those Pike they catch in Newman. I don t want to see the Tiger population suffer one bit cause of these fish. I am a big supporter of the PIke but the P.O River and Lake Coeur d'alene is where they need to stay. People don t need to be transplanting them to their favorite lake, they reproduce way to fast and they can devastate a lake in no time. They will eat the Muskies food supply up and we wont see the quality of Tigers were seeing. Please Please Please don t let the Pike go in Newman if you catch one. I'd hate to see them close or spend a lot of unnecessary money on Newman to do a Pike eradication because of there numbers.

As much as I hate it I agree with you Craig. I got to thinking about it, if these pike ended up successfully spawning it would DESTROY the tiger fishery. The food base would be gone, and if WDFW killed the lake we would be set back 10 years at least from where we are now. I love pike fishing, but Newman lake is not the place for it.
