Well, thought I was finished fishing for the summer as I bowhunt and it is coming up fast, but, managed to get away for the morning with the wife for her first trip of the year, and only her third bass fishing trip, ever,

Put in at daylight and fished to the east of the Alder ramp. Seen quite a few fish follow up our junk but no takers until I finally caught a little bucket mouth using a 4" watermelon/laminate senko, wacky rigged.

We then moved out for a boat ride as she has never been to Alder before and I wanted to take her up and show her the little Nisqually. We went to the end where there were rapids and was looking around and we saw a largemouth up in there, about 2 pounds, and I was kind of surprised. So, we fished our way back out of the channel until we hit the larger part of the lake in the Little Nisqually. Fishing the steep bank on the south side, my wife, who can't cast real well, but adquate, launches a crank bait over a dead tree that laid over the water, I mean, she missed the water by 15 feet, but the story continues.

She says an expletive or two and tries to free the lure. It, seemingly, becomes more intangled. A last gasp effort and the lure popped out and into the water. We are laughing as she reels up her slack and when the line comes tight she says "$%&%, am I hung up". I followed, quickly with "It's probably a fish!"

Sure enough, fish on. So, she starts jerking the rod and I am like, "What are you doing? Quit jerking, pick your rod tip up!"

I coach her through it and some how she lands the thing. We took a picture and then she got the pleasure of releasing her first ever Smallmouth.

This whole episode was LMFAO! But she managed to pull it off and I think the pic's of her smile should say it all, a great day:)

Awesome report, gave me a good chuckle. I believe days like that make for the most memorable trips! Always good to watch someone pull in their first of a fish species. Good fish for her, and good luck bowhunting!
