Headed out to Newman Lake with fellow washington lakes member Scott Pratt last Thursday. It was just one of those days where you couldn't resist grabbing the old ultra light and tying in to some nice fat slab crappies. We got to the lake around 4pm and I took him to one of my super secret spots. I discovered this spot while previously fishing with another washington lakes member, Doug W. Doug was attempting to demonstrate to me exactly how one would go about catching a Tiger Musky. He took me to one of his super secret spots and proceeded to catch 3 nice big crappies on 4 casts with a 5" husky jerk. Not exactly what he was after but it did appeal to me, the self proclaimed Newman Lake crappie expert. I logged the location into the GPS chip in my brain and headed out there on another day armed with crappie gear. His musky spot yielded zero crappie for me on that next trip out but poking around a little down the shoreline I hit the Big Bonanza. Fish after fish after fish. We've all had those crappie days where you can't keep them off the hook. This was one of them. I called Scott and bragged up my crappie fishing expertize and we set a date for his "fishing lesson". The fish started biting right away at the first spot. I believe Scott was duly imppressed with my ability to put him on fish within minutes of our arrival. The first couple fish were approximately 12"ers, so the next few 10"ers were released to grow up, thinking we were going to "Load The Boat". After a hand full of small ones we moved to my next super secret spot. Unfortunately there was someone else there. As they drifted through we got in line and drifted the same area. We ended up with these two that were I believe 13"ers, one of them weighing in at 1lb 9ozs. Scott can correct me if I'm wrong. We didn't exactly load the boat but he did take home enough to make a nice dinner for his family. I have been out there twice since then and found these fish tough to find now.
Two lessons can be learned from this trip.

Lesson #1, just because you caught a buttload of fish one day doesn't mean you will duplicate that when you try to show off to your buddies.
Lesson #2, You can meet some great people on this website.
Don't be afraid to contact fellow members about fishing together, and don't be afraid to agree to take someone along with you when they contact you through Wa. Lakes. It has been a great experience for me so far and I look forward to meeting and fishing with more fellow members.

Happy Fishing
