Spent the weekend in a cabin on the JBLM end of American Lake. Got up early Saturday morning and went down to the fishing dock near the MWR Adventure Center on base. One of my weekend fishing companions, Steve, landed a 23 inch, 8 pound Kokanee on the first cast in to the water right off the dock at about 7:50am. She was an absolute beauty and there was no greater thrill than all of us helping him bring her in!!

8 lbs! Hmmm...according to LandBigFIsh.com (http://www.landbigfish.com/staterecords/records.cfm?order=date&sortorder=desc&state=Washington) the official state record kokanee for WA state is only 6lb, .25oz. Sooooo........unless you got this thing weighed on an official scale and have some pics...I don't wanna say I'm skeptical but.................

We did not have it weighted on an official scale, but it was sure pretty close. We are new to this sport. Weren't aware that State records were out there. We'll have to check in to that. Thanks for the info. Should have found somewhere to get it weighed "officially". Maybe, just maybe, we could have broken that record this weekend.

I posted a new comment that includes pictures. Evidently I mis-identified the type of fish. See new post with the pictures and if you can identify it, please post a comment.

Nice Fish!! I would say its a Rainbow trout. I catch a few of these every year here at American. Good eating they are! I have a few pics here, You could look at them and compare and see if in fact it is a rainbow. But Again NICE fish!!
