Spent the weekend at American Lake on the JBLM side of the lake. One of our fishing companions caught this big one on the first cast of the morning on Saturday, at about 7:50am. We were on the fishing dock just below the cabins. We were told by someone on the dock that it was a Kokanee, but comments from an earlier post indicate that it is not. It did measure 23 inches long, but we did not have it officially weighed. If someone can tell me whether or not this was a trout or a Kokanee, I would appreciate it. We are new to the sport and are still learning to tell the difference.

There is huge trout in that lake I have caught one my self pushing 20+ inches just the other weekend I hooked a huge "something " but I will never know! LOL . If you have a pic of the fish we could tell you what it was ! 8lb. kokanee out of AMERICAN lake that would be awsome.

It does not look like a Kokanee...looks more like a cuttbow. We've caught a few that size before on American. It could even be one of those brooders they dumped in there before...a little hard to tell exactly with the blood on the fish and darker picture.
