I finally got a chance to get out and do a little fishing today. After doing some errands in Zillah, I dropped over to Buena pond to try my luck "for anything that would bite" . I met a nice fella named Omar and his wife but they hadn't caught anything. He soon lkeft and so did the few anglers fishing for trout so I had the whole pond to myself> I rigged up a finesse bobber , micro jig and maggot and started fan casting the shore line. I didn't have a bite until I hit the willows at the far end of the parking lot. There I had a take down and caught a smallish perch, which I released. About a minute later the bobber went down and a spastic 10" rainbow jumped and I soon landed him. It was kinda strange because the fishing conditions were almost perfect. The bobber dissapeared slowly and I set on the fish and to my suprise it was an 11" largemouth bass! (my first of the year.) I immediately went to the truck and broke out my Okuma ultralight and rigged up a 3" Yum dinger senko worm on a 1/32 oz jighead. The smoke/pearl laminate bait is one of my favorite cold water bass lures. I fan cast this rig quartering the bank, moving methodically. I got a swimming, side ways bite and set the hook so hard the poor bass came flying out of the water and into the willows! (Another identical 11" LMB). My third bass followed it almost to the bank before he took it, this one was about an inch smaller. Buena Pond saved the best for last though...I was just getting ready to leave when I got a very solid "tap" on my line and I set the hook hard. This fish was heavy and bent my ultralight almost double. I thought maybe I had a Brood stock rainbow-until it jumped.... A big bass had taken my senko. After a few tense seconds I was able to muscle her into the bank- and lipped a solid 17" Largemouth, all fat and healthy. I snapped a photo of her and slipped her back in the water. I'm hoping my Samsung digital camera will allow me to upload a picture of the fish to Wa Lakes for this report. Final tally-3 perch, 4 bass and a trout. Not bad for about an hour of fishing on Buena pond. Jiggy
