This lake seems very different than any other still water fishing lake I have ever fished. It is challenging but I am bound and determined to figure this lake out. I have fished this lake about 4 times since September of 2010 and I plan on fishing there a whole lot more. There are some huge fish in this lake and for the most part seem to be surface feeders or subsurface feeders just about anytime of the year any condition. I was out fishing in the pouring rain and was the only one on the water the enitre time I was there (that part was cool even though it was raining but I guess that is why you invest in good rain gear), anyhow fish were still rising and I swear they were just rising at air bubles. I tried the usual kicking a wolley buger around and dredging the bottom in about 30 to 34 ft. this has been sucessfull in the past but not today. I marked some fish on the west side of the lake in 12 to 14 feet of water fished chronomids in a light green size 16 and also trolled a white streamer and black crystal bugger which usually sucessfull. Well after getting frusterated as usual I decided to try something that has worked for me very well in some eastside lakes but has never seemed to be as effective for me on the west side. I decided to fish a blood worm in like a size 8 in 30 ft of water at about 4 feet below the surface. Once I did this within about thirty seconds my indicator went down, and fish on. I was plesantly supprised, then about 10 minutes later down again fish on. Both nice acrobatic fighters both around 22 inches definatly begining to feed more agresively. So like I said not your text book situation but I learned something new today, Fish a blood worm in march on cady.
