Fished Bitter again today for 2 hours and got 2 fish on the fly. Used a black stonefly nymph for the first one. Got a huge hit from something large, or at least larger than the first one and lost the black nymph. I used 6lb 4X tippet last time and got no strikes at all. The slimmer tippet seemed to hide the fly better and encourage strikes this time around but just gotta be careful on the big strikes. The second fish I caught on the good ol' prince nymph. Roll casted it to some fallen trees and started pulling it in towards shore thinking nothing was there. But then, I saw this little bow following it and I just stopped and said, "OK, if you really want it that bad, go ahead and take it." And he did. Took a while to revive him but both he and the first guy got released unharmed. Rain was really coming down at around 1:30 but stopped and the water was mostly calm for the rest of the afternoon. The best nymph for this lake seems to be the prince nymph, but then again I haven't tried midges or dry flies yet. Good day for fly fishing.

Lord/fly, are you in a tube or are you hanging out by the ball park field?

Hey Quadfather, I've been fishing at the ball park fields, either from the shore or wading out as far as 2 feet deep...Yeah, that's me, the funny looking guy with the fly rod case and landing net slung over his shoulder. Pika206 was gonna come fish with me today but he's been out sick. When the weather gets a little more consistently non-rainy I might bust out the kayak or the canoe.

Let me know when you are going to hit another local lake one of these days. I would send you a PM, but with the new bugs in the new website, I cannot send any messages yet. ( hope that isn't to presumptuous of me) You can email me at:

In the late 60's I grew up fishing Bitter as a kid from shore and in an 8' pram. Learned how to fly fish their as well, and it always seemed in the spring my " black nymph" would produce the most. I don't know if this fly is still around but a "Jamison Shrimp" was another good bet.

Lord of the Fly - if you were on the lake on Sunday afternoon wading about I think I saw you. I saw some trout surfacing during my trip but had one minor minor hit. Otherwise I caught more milfoil than anything else today.

Yeah, that was me. I got out there for just an hour and then met up with some friends to watch some movies. It was getting cold so I figured the bite was going to slow down too.
