A lovely evening on Lk Union, i came into a spot being vacated by another angler throwing a spinnerbait. He says the smallies just got here a week ago and he caught 6 already.

That's quite a haul! So i tied on spinnerbait and gave it a shot. let's say that i didn't have luck he did, but then again, i was using a different color and shape and I'm not even sure how to work this things. So after a couple surface retrieves with no follows, i let it sink deeper and deeper. The bottom is full of snaggy rocks so i wasn't to keen to drag it on the bottom. But that's what it took to get the one fish of the night. I let her go, but she told all her friends (typical) and no other takers. But happy with one good fighter on the line. I'd say 14-15 inches and whatever lb-age that comes out to.

More importantly, the spinnerbait produced for the first time and so that's staying tied on next time. And i'll be going back to store to buy a couple more.

Thanks for the pic lil fishy.

Try popping it slightly one the retrieve every 5 seconds or so. Don't just swim it back. I cut all my skirts back to the bigger hook. I really recommend a red trailer hook as well. It works well in clear weather for smallies and large mouth.

Awesome! I keep putting off using spinnerbaits when I'm at Union. I guess I better use them the next time I am there.
