I drove out to American lake and when I got out to get things ready I found that I forgot the ice chest. I didn’t have anything to put the fish into and it was suppose to warm up today. So I got back in and came home. Switched out motors and went to Clear Lake. I started around 8:30 and left about 10 with my limit. I was going to start out with the 50/50 outfit that I finished with yesterday. I let out 25 pulls and went to grab the line to put in the clip, which bent the rod...maybe too much...it snapped and now I have a 5 piece rod. Therefore I used one rod with a Les Davis Herring Dodger 0/0 and Wannafish A Lure Bloody Mary. I ventured out a little deeper today. Into 50 foot water and caught almost all fish at 25 feet on the downrigger. It was cloudy but not dark. The sun didn’t peek out like yesterday.

Looks like you have this kokanee fishing dialed in! Bummer to hear you broke some equipment in the process. Was it a graphite or a fiberglass rod?

G-man it was a graphite rod.

I figured as much. I broke one of my Daiwa Heartland kokanee rods doing pretty much the same thing. I love the sensitivity of graphite but they just don't take the abuse like my Uglystik and fiberglass Eagle Claw ultralight.

I bought two ugly stick koke models for my wife and I, the reason is I broke a 30 yr. old graphite trying to release out of a tangled clip, this season I have been using the less expensive lamiglass kokanee special which is glass, works great, a little more limber action than the ugly sticks, but I haven't stuck anything of size yet on it, I hope it's as durable as the ugly sticks. I feel for you, it's tough losing a rod that's killed a lot of fish.Hopefully I'll get to Quinalt and stick a big Dolly on it next week, but I've got a pinched sciatic nerve that's keeping my fishing and lifting to a minimum.
