After hearing over the years and then again just last week about the hot fishing at Rufus Woods, my husband, daughter and her hasband and myself decided to take a Sunday and just road trip it (4 hour ride) from the westside of the mountains and try it out.
We were NOT disappointed.
Between good directions and advice of coworkers and family we found where we were going no problem. We were near the Chief Joseph Dam, followed the banks and dirt road to get to the fishing spot we wanted. Threw out our poles and within 20 minutes we had a hit. It was a nice trout, average size. Lo and behold, I had a hit...my pole bent, line going "zzzzziiiippppp" I managed to real in my first BIG trout ever! Now I have caught trout but in my mind...this was like catching a salmon! (first time feeling!) My daughter managed to catch one shortly after I did approximately the same size. (23 inchers!)
Between hits there were some time gaps of 45 minutes or so, but it gave us time to visit and observe others fishing or the boats running thru. All in all, we came home with 7 fish, 4 of them 21 inches and above. We can't wait to go back! The girls out fished the guys but that will probably only happen ONCE! :-) Here is a photo of my daughter Jayme and I with our first big fish and one of her two big ones from Rufus Woods! We aren't done fishing there yet folks!

Congradulations on the wonderful outing. Those are some nice fish. I look forward to getting there myself but can't seem to find the time.

Jipper,
I was told between 5-6 1/2 pounds but I can't quote definitely on that. The biggest one was 24 inches and very FAT! It was a total blast reeling those fish in! I wish I had spent some time going before but hey...it is off my mini bucket list of places to go but I will go back definitely! (Probably this up and coming weekend!) Hubby is totally hooked. :-)

Nice looking fish. I also heard you all catching fish (we were not far from you fishing). Nice to see you posting up your catch and yes Rufus is an addictive drug. Even when you don't catch fish you know they are there and want to go back to try and try again. Then when you tie into one of those fat fish it is a super high.
