I ran over to Newman last night with a friend, looking for my first Tiger Musky of notable size. I threw spinnerbaits, big jointed lip lures, gliding lures (wich look great in the water by the way), spoons, and husky jerks. I fished deep water, I fished shallow water, and I fished somewhere in between. I even fished the exact same water that I witnessed Dog W. catch and release 2 nice tigers from, in one night last year. NOTHING, NADA, ZILTCH. I did as I always do when I fish for tigers. I gave up after 3 hours of casting without a bite and i picked up ----- you guessed it Doug. My crappie rod. Now there's some fishin. I found them in about 6 feet of water on the outside of the cabbage beds. Only one fish came from inside the beds. They really liked the very outside edge and just in that 5 to 6 foor zone. 8 feet didn't do it. Oh yes, I did manage one tiger, and as you see by the smile on my face in the photo, I was EXCITED. I think he was a carbon copy of the one I got last year. He did put up a ferocious battle. Dodging here and there, running under the boat, jumping out of the water and putting on a very impressive arial display, all while he was attached to the end of my ultra light. Not sure what he weighed. My scale only goes up to 30lbs. I suppose I could have measured him. I think his length was about 14" and his girth was about 2 1/2". what does that work out to? Man, I can only imagine what it will be like if I ever catch the Lager Economy size. I'm not giving up yet, but it's back to pike fishing for the weekend for me. We did get 2 follows from a fish that I would guess to be in the upper 30's to 40 inches range. Those 2 wanted a closer look at a buzzbait thrown by my fishing partner. I had explained the figure 8 to him before we left but I was looking th other direction when the first one showed up. I hear his trembling voice say, "Holy $h1t, look at the size of this thing!" I barely got the words Figure 8 Him out of my mouth when the fish darted off. 2 casts later and in a diffrent direction and he had another follow. This time the fish turned away about 10 feet from the boat and left a swirl in the water that looked like it had come from my trolling motor. He said it was even bigger than the first one. One chance. Just give me one chance at one of those big girls. I'll show em how it's done! They better hit within the first 3 hours though or It's back to crappie fishing. I got about a dozen crappies, with 4 or 5 of them like the ones in the photo at 13". Good fighters and good size to fillet. If you eat fish that is. Happy Fishing

Hi,
Fun fishing story to read! Are you saying there's northern pike in Newman, plus Tiger Muskies?

Carp Mouth, No I am not saying that at all. what I meant is that I will go pike fishing instead of chasing the elusive Tiger Musky. Happy Fishing

Thanks for sharing, I had a somewhat similar experience last weekend. The kids were fishing for crappie and I for bass when the attack occurred. length 50" x girth 6", when she struck my lure she grabbed on and swam straight at the boat so we all got a good look at her as she jumped out of the water and spun around seemingly in midair. Sadly she was able to easily snap my 10lb line with ease and run away with my brand new crankbait lure. I plan to go back this weekend to the same spot and try get my lure back from her, maybe if I ask nicely. :>)
