9/20/2011 8:13:00 PMYes, Chain lake has a huge healthy population of smallmouth. They are very aggresive. The water is gin clear and on a glass day with polarized glasses you can see schools of small bass very easily. I have caught fish around the entire lake. It also have a good population of bluegill sunfish. And some rainbow trout that keep eluding me.

9/20/2011 10:35:00 PMThere are no small mouth bass in Chain lake. I have fished there since 1980's and they are all large mouth bass in there. But it is a great lake to catch a lot of bass in end of Summer/fall. I usually get 20-50 every time out there and top water is great. Biggest I have seen out of that lake is a 18" and 20" 4lb bass. Most are 10" and under.

9/20/2011 11:28:00 PMFYI take a look at other chain lake reports and you can see photo's of one's I have caught. All largemouth bass in green/black color smallmouths are more bronze color if you look at Lake Goodwin reports you will see the color difference. I have never gotten a smallmouth bass out of chain very few crappie and more bluegill, cutthroat trout and don't recall any perch out of there.

Smallmouth: mouth hinges under the middle of the eye.
Largemouth: mouth hinges well behind the eye.

I have not been fishing very long, maybee they are largemouth. I posted a picture above of what we have been catching.

9/22/2011 5:45:00 PMAfter looking at more pics I see what you are saying. So I guess I have been catching largemouths all along. I guess I need to go target some smallmouths so I can see the differance in person. What lake would have smallmouth that would be more close to monroe than goodwin?
