Ok so, I have been fishing Union a lot the past few weeks. I have caught a ton of smallmouth ranging from 1/2 a lb to 1 1/2 lbs. I caught the vast majority of them on crankbaits. I hooked into a couple in the 3 - 4 lb + range but unfortunately they all jumped within a few feet of shore and spit the hooks in mid air. Damn trebles.. you either got them real good or you barely got them at all.

Anyways, instead of writing a novel, I will try to keep it somewhat short. I got sick on monday and called in sick on tuesday. I ended up sleeping almost all day on tuesday so when I woke up at 11pm I was wide awake. Just before 4 am, I decided that I was going to go fishing to keep myself awake and active so that I dont pass out right before work. So I drove up to Lynnwood Walmart, bought 4 different crankbaits and drove to Lake Union.

I got to Union around 4:30 ish or so and didn't get a single bite until about 6 am when I caught about 5 or 6 rock bass on a drop shot. I threw cranks the entire time before and didn't get any hits. Then around 7 o clock I switch spots and on my second cast, BAM!!! I get a HUMONGOUS hit on my deep diving crank and I set the hook hard! Whatever it is on the end of my line, it sure feel HUGE! It starts pulling in different directions and taking out a bit of drag. I kept thinking to myself OH MAN I FINALLY GOT A BIG SMALLIE ON! But when it gets close to shore, I am in for the surprise of my fishing life. I didn't have a big smallie on, I had TWO smallies on ONE crankbait! As soon as I saw it I was in disbelief for a few brief seconds. So I finished fighting the pair of smallies in and get them on shore. I snapped a couple quick pics and take a quick video. Then I take them off the hook and weigh them. The smaller one weighed in at 12 oz while the bigger one weighed in at 1 lb 5 oz. As soon as I let them go, I cast out to the same spot and as it is getting semi close to shore, in the EXACT same spot BAM!! Another big hit and another hookset! Fish On!! This time it was a 1 lb 2 oz smallmouth. I must have come across a small school of them. After that I got a few bites but no hook ups. Before I knew it, it was time for me to leave for work. Bummer cause the bite was just starting to heat up.

First pic is the 2 smallies I caught on one crankbait.
Second pic is a random pic of a 1 lb 6 oz smallie that I caught on a dropshot around 11pm on a previous night.
I chose to post that picture because I liked the coloration on it :)

I also forgot to mention that I caught a Silver Salmon in the canal on that same crankbait pictured. I thought I had a big smallie on again because it was pulling pretty hard and felt heavy. It wasn't a big one but was still a very fun fight. i wanted to snap a pic after landing it but while holding the bill of my crankbait, it shook violently and back into the lake it went.

Dude, nice report and that's quite the pic of two on one crankbait. I know what you mean about trebles, but then again you did catch a "two for one special". Me you and Ryan should head out some day before the weather turns. Nice job.

@ fishingfool - what can i say, some people kind of talked me into it. i'm trying to ignore the reasons that made me leave but it's still hard. plus i had to share this "probably" once in a life time catch :)
