Lake Chelan remains really good fishing in the Lower basin of lake Chelan for laketrout...Triploid rainbow Fishing is going Great guns at Rufus woods..Peteros, Bridgeport, Methow River Steelhead Fishing is starting to light up.
Lake Chelan- the Ace Hi-Fly remains the Top Producing Bait
Rufus Woods- the Wooley Bugger Fly Without Bait has been slaying the Triploids...Why Fish Bait when you don't have to!!!!Remember that when you fish Scent or bait on your lure or hook, you catch 2 Trout regardless of Size, your limit is reached!!!!!I have been seeing a lot of catch and release going on while using Bait!!!
The Marabou Jig of your Choice in 1/8th and 1/16th oz under a Slip Bobber tipped with Shrimp in Upper Columbia at Pateros and Bridgeport will Produce for you...Remeber when you venture into Eastern Washington be prepared with Layers of Clothing to protect you from the Winter weather..2nd Picture is the last of the Aftermath of Smoking 26 laketrout and 14 Triploid Rainbows... ..Thanksgiving at my house is Smoking Good!!! Tight Lines to all and Be Safe!!!!

I have had a lot of fish smoked, but Lake Trout is not one I have tried yet. How would you say it is compared to Steelhead??

I do like Smoked Laketrout better than most smoked fish...It is really oily Flesh so makes great Smoked Fish!!!!

As long as you keep the smoker from turning into a grease fire! I remember a few fridge fires from putting too many in the smoker at one time!

I do Trim all the fat that I can before I Dry Brine the Laketrout...It's not as messy in the smoker...Another trick that I do when smoking Laketrout is: If I have a Fish over 8lbs. I skin it and cut my fillets into pieces that are eating size before Dry Brining, then Smoke it and by skinning and then smoking it does not take as long in the smoker...

Smoked Mack can be better than the smoked salmon made from the salmon that us eastsiders are able to harvest. Now it might be a different story if all are salmon were caught on the coast. Joe you have just brought on another topic for our trip with you on the 13th. Smoking and using dry brines. We are so looking forward to fishing with you!! Augy
