12/13/2011 12:44:00 PMHey guys, just an fyi: both Crappie and Rainbow Trout are considered game fish, which are illegal to use as bait. Be careful with posting that where "watchful eyes" might see it! ;-)

12/14/2011 12:48:00 PMFor some odd reason me and the buddy are usually checked by WDFW agent(s) once or twice a season. We had a good conversation last year with an agent that shared the following. It is not illegal to use Crappie for Sturgeon, but they have to be dead. He also mentioned that when the fish are taken from the lake they have to be dead when leaving. I called the state office to verify same. Sure enough, you can use Crappie and they do have to be dead. Sorrowful situation and too bad for the fishery. For the record the buddy and I will catch and release several hundred in a season. We don't keep anything. I can only imagine the numbers of Crappie being taken from LaCamas to be used for bait.
