Just as a quick FYI, I haven't been able to fish Green Lake much since my last report. I have gone maybe 3 times in the past 5 weeks for only a couple hours at a time and I have gotten skunked each time.

I went to Green Lake for 2 hours this afternoon after meeting my parents in Lakewood for lunch. I fished from about 4 pm to 6 pm. I basically went because I was dying to test out my brand new rod which is a 7' MH Powell Diesel Glass Crankbait Rod. The rod is AMAZINGLY light and my digital scale put it at only 3 oz. Teamed up with a Team Daiwa Fuego spooled with 10 lb Berkley Big Game Monofilament, it only weighs 12 oz all together!

So I get to Green Lake and I immediately begin fan casting in all directions trying to see if I can locate some fish. Power Fishing at it's finest. Whenever I am power fishing, I am starting my back cast even before my lure exits the water. I'm sure that a lot of people have been wondering what crankbait that I have been throwing to catch my browns. At least what type of crankbait whether it be a deep diver, shallow diver, wake bait, jerk bait, etc etc. Well, I'm gonna spill the beans. However, you're going to have to see my YouTube video to find out.

Anyways, I had one AMAZING STRIKE from a HUGE BROWN TROUT! I casted close to shore and was burning it along the edge of the dock. I swung it around the corner and then let the bait die and sink. Then from under the dock a huge brown just darts out lightning fast and COMPLETELY HAMMERS my lure! I immediately set the hook but this trout was miraculously able to spit the lure and completely avoid getting hooked. It seriously blows my mind because it absolutely nailed my bait and had the whole thing in it's mouth but still got off.

The video quality after editing and uploading to YouTube sucks so you can't get that clear of a look at it. But I saw it in person and it was huge. It was much bigger than the 3 lb Rainbow that I caught at Lake Desire. I estimate to fish to be at least in the low-mid 20" and pushing 4 lbs at the very least.

Enjoy :)

Elijah, I have been enjoying your reports for several months. Just watched your clip. That was an awesome fish! I was over in that area of the lake in early January and could see a very large carcass on the bottom off the end of the dock. Have you seen that? It had a big square tail like a brown. I used a similar lure in gold at the other end of the lake and had a big boy role up on it and not get hooked as I lifted the lure from the water. Hooks were sticky sharp too! Amazing how that happens. Still waiting for you to post a picture of something really big. Great work. Tight Lines >//////( ' <

hey craig, thanks for the kind words! i saw the carcass before it decayed. it was actually a really big carp. and yeah the hooks on my lipless crank were really sharp but that trout just managed to hit it right in the middle and from the side and avoided both trebles!

That was definitely a big fish and it's a shame it missed the hooks. I had the exact same thing happen to me off that dock this fall with a spinner. Your fish looks about 16" larger than the one I missed though, so I was a bit less disappointed ;)
