Hit the lake about 9a.m., decided to use the electric motor instead of the outboard, set speed low and paddled to vary presentation speed. trolled the east side of lake with homemade wedding rings with small worms, no hits until the north side and then the 5'6" fenwick eagle gt rod doubled over. Couldn't move him for a bit, then he proceeded to go airborne at least 7 times, 1 to 3 ft. clear of the surface each time. after a half dozen STRONG runs Melanie scooped him up, had him for dinner with homemade teriyaki sauce, Tasty!We saw quite a few boats trolling, more then one commented on coldness of water and lack of bites, we knew there would be more action stillfishing so after no more bites then the one trolling we double anchored up and limited out, but it took a while.We saw someone fishing with a setup more appropiate to salmon fishing then trout, I would have lost this 5lb, 4 oz. fish with a heavier outfit as there was a scrap of meat in the corner of the jaw no more then an 1/8 of an inch thick holding it on, any tighter tension then I applied would have resulted in a lost fish. I say this because I'm a firm believer in using ultralight gear for that very reason. Of course you have to be sure of your knot tying ability and use a premium line , inspecting knots and nicks in line.It helps to be able to fire up the engine when your line becomes low on reel for REALLY big fish(16 1/2 Chinook on 6 lb. ultra green maxima). Plus the fight is something you remember forever.Surface temp. was 53 degrees.Tight lines to all, parking was tight but you can find parking out on the street, do NOT park below no parking sign at launch, an easy ticket for enforcement.
