Made a run for the lower pin area on Friday morning with the wife and the dogs huddled in the cuddy to keep warm and started fishing at about 0700. My wife had her first fish on an hour later, good fight but not much weight to it. The river was quiet today, not the usual victory yells from fellow fishermen who landed the “big one,” the fish finder had not made a sound and I was beginning to worry as people on the banks and in the boats stated they had not received a bite in days. Then it happened my first fish of the day, hit hard and ran the drag, I was able to set the hook and the fight was on, with the assistance of my professional netter I was able to bring my first fish in the boat for the dogs to inspect weighing in at 10.9 pounds (weighed more than both the dogs put together) length was 27.5 inches time was 0910 and I was feeling good. You can imagine my excitement, as I was using 6 pound line, no weight and a barbless # 6 hook. The set was in the corner of the mouth. This was my personal best in the lake beating my old record of 8 pounds. Another hour went by and it was my wife’s turn again with her second fish on and in the boat. No record breaker, but it’ll smoke up good. Figuring I had done the best that I would do and only 1 fish to go, I placed my pole in the holder and was waiting to see what would happen, could have been a costly mistake, The next hit was as big as I have ever seen from my boat with my pole bending to a question mark and the drag just short of catching on fire from the friction. I grabbed the pole set the hook and the fight started, 10 minutes later the fish tired out enough for my wife to place the net under it, as she pulled the fish out of the water it worked up one last burst of energy, snapped my line and fell inside the boat. I was ready to collapse. It was time for a diet coke as it had just past 12 noon. Placing this fish on the scale it came in at 12.9 pounds, I held it there for a long time hoping it would change to 13 but no such luck. (no complaints though) length was also 27.5 inches. The rest of the weekend was slow but we were able to catch out limit for Saturday well. It was a great weekend on the river. Lots of wildlife and people enjoying life.
Tight lines to all

What did you catch these huge hogs on if you don't mind me asking?I know how helpful it is to have your significant other be a pro with a net.Bob R

Hi Bob, Funny you should ask, I have a tackle box about half the size of my 20 foot boat filled with all the different lures one could possibly want, I keep buying them and trying them wit no luck. What I use is the same setup that my grandfather and father have used all their lives. I can't tell you the brand name for fear of my grandfather returning from the grave and I know my father watches the reports closely and I fear them both. LOL It is a form of a spoon. I can honestly say that they have not let me down. I use no weight and I troll between .5 and 1.2 mph to put them down about 15 feet below the surface. I'll keep buying the latest and greatest lure out there, but I'm sure I'll end up using the tackle the family has been using for generations. My grandsons are in line for the hand off the lures and they'll receive the same threat my grandfather and father have given to me :0) Thanks for the comment

Hi dad, don't be a hater.... LOL Your daughter in law caught her nice fish with her pink pole, BUT if the lunkers would have been on the pink pole and I would have brought them in I'd be OK with that also. Sure wished you could have joined us so you could gut my fish. Hopefully we can get out over the holiday to do our thing. As you see from the above I did not give the secrets of the lure away. AND I knew you'd be checking. :o)
