Fished Wapato Mon evening. It was pretty windy! One gust picked the front end of the boat up a bit. That was unnerving to say the least. Lots of heavy strikes but only pulled in a couple of football shaped trout. I was surprised to see so few people at either of the two campsites. There was just a few boats on the lake when I started and none when I finished. Years ago this was a HOT lake. It's still ok.... The ramp at the south end of the lake is still no charge, it's no longer a WDFW ramp.

That is interesting. Maybe that is why the Sheriff has swarmed the boat ramp on opening day, for the last 2 years in a row. Including one Sheriff's with no less than 3 personnel on board. doing boat to boat safety checks. I was told by one of them before launching, that a throw type floating cushion was required on board. That was news to me. As well as a signaling device such as whistle or horn, PFD for everyone on board, current boat decals WITH registration on board the vessel.

The throwable and life jacket for sure, even on my lil jon. I think I'm not required to have the noise signal, decals or registration..... electric trolling motor, short enough, light enough, that I just toss it on top of the van..... i don't recall the length of the boat,,,,,,, 10'???? I'm not sure why WDFW cut Wapato loose, might be a dispute of some sort, maybe it's just the money, I know there is a ton of garbage bags dumped at the ramps in the area, some locals not wanting to pay for garbage service no doubt........ I'd like to hit Wapato again when the water warms, target bass and pan fish.

I think if you've got over 10 HP gas engine, you've gotta have the registration, ect. My memory isn't working these days.... LOL

I am pretty sure every boat is required to have a whistle our 12ft aluminum rental boats have been pulled over and checked for a whistle. I believe you only need to be licensed if you have a motor larger than 9.9 or your boat is 16' or over. I think the throwable is also for boats over 16'. When reading the rule book it can get very confusing though.

Hmmm, my memory isn't what it used to be. Might be why there is a whistle in my tackle box. LOL I sit on the throwable, guessing that just became habit to toss it in the boat for comfort rather than requirement. Thanks Mike!
