This report is actually for a neighbor at the lake. His name is Ralph Rice and he lives full time at Deer Lake. He was fishing off of his dock and caught this 9.2 lb Rainbow using 1/2 a worm and corn. We are not sure but this might be the largest rainbow ever caught at Deer. No eggs so it was probably a male.

Never caught a giant rainbow or even a small one with green sides and a white belly, not to mention stuff growing on the sides. Looks like a great big tench, bottom feeder, That fish is by no means a rainbow trout,. tell your neighbor to keep up the good work on Deer lake we need thoses trash fish out of there.

May indeed be a rainbow but I do agree, that without seeing it from the side, it could be a tench. Not many people have even heard of a tench, but having grown up and lived on Loon Lake, they are around and are frequently caught within schools of trout. Given the gentle mans age, I would think that he knows the difference, though.

Fat white belly, red fins, Deer lake. Trout mouth, not tench. I'm voting for a mack

coloration is all wrong for a mack, macks dont have green on the sides

Siscowet lake trout (Which are found commonly in the northwest) do have a greenish-grey color during spawning times.

Jeez guys...the guy has lived on the lake for 30 plus years and fishes a lot. I am sure he knows what a Rainbow looks like. It is not a tench...has anyone ever seen a 9 lb tench? As we all catch a lot of Macks we also know what they look like. Bottom line was the person taking the picture did not do a good job!!! It was a Rainbow!!!

It's a rainbow with dirty sides. It's just a big one. That's a nice sized fish!

Seriously, why does everyone have to have a smart ass comment? This is the kind of crap that make people stop posting reports. There are a lot of big rainbows in Deer lake just look through the past reports. It's not a Tench or a mack it's A Bow. You can see the Green & Red on it's side plus the spots on the tail.
