5/16/2012 8:48:00 PMMike there are not supposed to be any in Hayden. I would say that is a young pike because I have also caught young pike in there with stripes on them as well. I also spoke with biologists who were doing some shocking and they assured me there were no Tigers in Hayden.

5/16/2012 10:52:00 PMMike, I usually don't make comments like I did. Maybe I was wrong to do so. Maybe I even mis-identified the fish? I was just cut/pasting from the Idaho regs. I went with tiger muskie because of the stripes, and because the regs speak to tigers with the 40" minimum. So I assume they are there, otherwise why does the state stipulate the 40"?
Anyway, I really didn't mean to bust the guys chops, but just to make him aware. They are such a cool fish...kinda like to respect them. That being said, I've never even fished for them. Group hug to the angler...and fish onward!

I have the same respect for the fish as you and if I'd had any idea it was a tiger I'd let it go as soon as it got to the boat. I agree with fishincougar about it being a young pike. I pulled up 2 pics off the internet of young pike with the same markings.

5/17/2012 8:50:00 PMNice job, that is definitely a Pike, not a Tiger Muskie. You did nothing wrong. And Good on Quadfather trying to let people know regs they may not have known. He just identified the fish wrong, no big deal.

6/3/2012 8:20:00 PMThanks for the report, i've been eyeing up Hayden for awhile now but wanted to hear some good things first. I miss the warm water bite I used to get living up by Spokane, I'm in the salmon belt down here by Pullman. I'll throw in my 2cents too, I think it's a young pike for sure. Looks like a darn good crappie day too, congrats.
