Got out around Noon for openers and Wow was it packed. Parking was pretty bad and seems like people/boats was fishing on every opening that they could. Seen lots of people catching fish off the shore too. But that all changed when the wind picked. It got so windy i got drafted all the way down the lake so i had to walk halfway back packing the float tube also. I netted 2 small fish (not bigger then 14") right with in 15 mins. Once the wind picked up the fishing got pretty slow and people started to leave. I was determine to catch more fish so i ended up waiting the weather out for 30-40 mins and tried it again. Wind kind of died down but was still pretty rough. I fished for another 1 hour and hooked on to 3 fishes. One was another small guy and the others two were pretty decent hogs. I only netted one of them due to poor drag setup "LOL"and the one that i did Net came in @ 19 1/2". Not bad for opener. Will give it another shoot with the fly rod before the ice comes. Then will probably head back with the ice gear. Be safe and have fun fishing!

nice fish. I forgot it was the opener today as my son and I went down to the river and tried our luck today with no luck, I have been dong pretty good the last few months down there though. Sounds like the wind spoiled the opener huh> full lot too> hopefully everyone picked all there garbage up and no poachers either. And yes mtngrizz the lake is plenty safe to fish. Thanks for the report and stay safe out there, I may try and make it out next weekend due to weather as I try and always take a child with me. All 3 are 5 and under. Thanks again.

Yes this lake does freeze over with thick ice. Last year the ice got over 8" all around. I wouldn't say opener was spoiled cause of parking/too many people because im sure everyone been itching for the winter lakes to open since there isn't a lot of year round lakes in spokane area. But yes the wind did kill openers. Yet poeple were still out catching fish in 15+ mph wind. Im sure there was lot of trash left over as i did my self pick up a couple of power bait jars and candy wrappers. People this days love fishing and littering! As far as poachers? I doubt it. The game warden was there all day checking people going in and out. I myself was checked coming back. He said they planted all the winter lakes last weekend. So i guess fishing should be good for awhile! Have fun and be safe fishing!

nice, ya I got checked there last year as well, He was sitting on top of the hill and watched as I cought my fish and then checked them on my way out. Pretty good spot for him to be I would say. I wounder how much longer till the ice is ready to go. I bet it will be a month and half still. What were you using if I may ask?
