Went out to Hauser to do some pre-fishing for next Sunday's Spokane Bass tournament with my friend & 5 Alive Lures co-founder TJ Merrill. Neither of us had ever fished this lake, so we started out hitting some points & flats searching for fish with jerkbaits. Other than TJ getting a bite on a drop shot we had no luck in the first few hours. We talked with the only other boat on the lake, a couple of locals who had caught (2) 3 pounders up shallow on Black & Blue jigs. We both already had Jig rods set up, so we put down the jerkbaits & started pitchin' Jigs to the reeds. Within 30 minutes I landed a little LMB just under 2 lbs, after that we didn't get another bite for an hour. So we moved to a different area where we'd marked a lot of fish on our initial run around the lake. We started throwing Jigs around the reeds & few casts in I got bit, really set the hook hard, & immediately knew I had on a good one. TJ lipped her & put her on the scale, she weighed 4 lb- 11 oz. We fished another 30 minutes before we had to go, but didn't get anymore bites. So we only ended up with two Bass on the afternoon, both caught on a Black/Blue jig & Havoc Pit Boss trailer. Not a great day but we were excited to get our first nice Bass of 2013 in the boat, & as a bonus we gained some knowledge of Hauser lake for the upcoming tournament.

It's always great to get a good fish the first time on any lake.
