Started fishing about 1:30 pm. on the north end of the lake. SW wind 15mph with 25 mph gusts and high thin overcast. The air temperature was 72º and the water surface temperature was 51-53º. The water was clear with a moderate midge hatch going on.
Using a green leech and sinking line, I hooked but could not land about 12 rainbows. Along with fighting the wind and the fish jumping, it was difficult to maintain line pressure on the fish. Most appeared to be in the 12-14 inch range. All seemed to be very strong and active.
I moved to the south end of the lake and worked the area between the narrows and the launch. The wind subsided to about 10 mph around 5 pm and I had several hits down deep. I did manage to net and release two fat 18" Rainbows around 6 pm.
While cruising the lake, the fish appeared to be somewhat grouped up in different areas of the lake, but overall it was difficult to locate them with the fish finder. Most were sitting about 5-10 feet off the bottom in water 25' and more in depth. With the wind recently, the lake should be mixing in temperature and the thermocline should start developing when the first week or two of warm sunny weather arrives.
