Had a few hours available and decided to hit Deer Lake , about 58 degrees but felt much cooler against a steady Northeast breeze. Launched at the public ramp and proceeded to the South end of the lake where we find depths of 65 - 75 feet. After setting up flashers and both Fire Tiger Rooster Tail and Chartruese Wedding Ring presentations ( tipped with crawler) we began trolling in a zigzag pattern to the North side. We were out approx 100' with each rod. The chop on the water and varying windy conditions made trolling very difficult and multiple rods for the both of us would be out of the question today. In just a short time span small white caps appeared and maintaining any consistent trolling speed was impossible, rain squalls added to already tough conditions and at 5 pm we headed in. In spite of weather, and no bites we both agreed it was good to be on the water for a couple of hours. We will be back Monday for another crack at either the Mack's or Rainbows. Should mention as we headed out we spoke with two others who were coming off the water, they had a couple of Rainbows each but were calling it a day due to weather activity.

Side note: As we approached a sandy beach area on the West side of the lake in about 20' of water we got to see a top water fish boil. Looked to us like either small silvers or rainbow trout. A circular water disturbance approximately 15' by 8 ' . We approached slowly and the fish dispersed quickly. Has anyone else seen activity like this on fresh water?

Those small fish were Silvers that were released from the net pens they were raised in over the winter. This is the 4th year we have raised Silvers and when they are released they stay together for about 2 weeks. Last year I followed them and got to see the "boil' quite a few times. Eventually they disperse and go on to do whatever it is that they do.
