Arrived at the lake approx 9 AM and started trolling a Carey Special fly on an intermediate sinking flyline. This tactic worked fairly well in May, north of the large island, however after nearly 2 hours of fruitless effort, decided to troll down to the south end of the large island. Upon arrival, immediately started taking strikes, however the hits were very non-aggressive and despite half a dozen hits, still no luck. About noon, noticed an increase in mating activity of the small blue dragonflies as they would lay on the water (probably spawning. The trout became very active picking the flies off the surface. Switching to a Carey about the same length as those that we mating and trolling it just under the surface was the ticket as during the next 3 hours I caught 10 fish between 16-22 inches in length. Additionally there were numerous strikes which never hooked up. About 3:30 PM, the chow bell quit and for the next 3 hours were once again a fruitless error. Called it quits as the wind came up and rowing became an exhaustive effort.
