Wow, what a evening of fishing. Got to the fish hole at about 7:30pm. As soon as I put my line in the water I had a tap tap on the line, so I give it a little more line and bam had a fish on. At first it was swimming to the boat so I don't know how big it was, then it took a run and then another run. Start to reel him in and about halve way to the boat it takes another run. Finally he is tired enough reel him. Net him and it is a 18 inch 2.2 pound rainbow.
So my wife and I continue to fish and miss a couple of bites and then hook an average 13 incher and in to the cooler it goes. We miss a couple more bites. Then My wife has a big take down on her pole, but by the time she gets to it she thinks she missed it. But then the fish comes out of the water about 20 feet from the boat. So I tell her to reel in quickly and sure enough the fish is still on the hook. She get the line tight and and then the fish makes a big run away from the boat. Her eyes get real big. And I say to her that is a big fish. So she does a great job reel him in and keeping the line tight. Net him and it is a 18 inch 2.3 lb rainbow. She beat me again.
That was all in about 45 minutes. Great evening on the water, decided to call a night
We were using rainbow power bait on a 5 foot leader with a slip sinker.

the long leader works again, it amazes me how many people just but the short eagle claw leader and leader combo and get skunked everytime. i am the same way everywhere i go, at least a 3ft leader. (i usually use fly tippet)

Great writeup. Congrats. would love to fish that lake, but it's too far. I wanted to get up at 2am and go to Port Angeles for red hot salmon, but old Stuffy has an electrical problem and everything is hopefully only torn apart for a day or two. Regards.

Thanks Stuffy, it is a long drive but worth it for the fishing. They have a good population of Tiger Musky in the lake also. Thinking about going back in the future to try and catch a big Tiger. Drysuperfly52, definitely got to use the long leader to get your bait above the weed bed.
